The Washington Post

I was invited to contribute an essay to The Washington Post’s Made By History column. My piece published in February 2023 and explores Black folks’ long connections to the Pacific Ocean. It is the second in the Black Western Conversations series sponsored by the Clara Luper Department of African & African American Studies at the University of Oklahoma, highlighting diverse regional histories within the United States.

KVPR (Central California) Valley Edition

KVPR Valley Edition recently aired Episode 5: “Back to the Land: Allensworth and the Black Utopian Dream” of my Cal Ag Roots podcast series “We Are Not Strangers Here.” After it aired, I was interviewed by KVPR’s Valley Edition host, Kathleen Schock, to discuss the origins of the podcast and the importance of preserving the history of contributions of Black Californians to agriculture and rural communities.

KPBS (San Diego) Cinema Junkie Podcast

I was interviewed by KPBS Film Critic and Podcaster, Beth Accomando, to highlight the topic of “Black People And A Sense of Place.” In this episode, we discuss films such as Daughters of the Dust, Eve’s Bayou, Get Out, Sorry To Bother You, Last Black Man in San Francisco, and Black Panther, and examine how each of these films defines a connection to the land or a place.
